QuickWhisper requires several system permissions to function properly. If you're having trouble with the automatic permission requests, you can enable them manually through macOS System Settings.

  • Microphone - To record audio from your microphone

  • System Audio - To capture system audio from applications

  • Accessibility - To paste transcribed text directly into other applications

Step-by-Step Instructions

1. Microphone Permission

  1. Open System Settings

  2. Click on Privacy & Security

  3. In the left sidebar, click Microphone

  4. Find QuickWhisper in the list and toggle it ON

  5. If QuickWhisper isn't listed, click the + button and navigate to your Applications folder to add it

2. System Audio Permission

  1. Open System Settings

  2. Click on Privacy & Security

  3. In the left sidebar, click Screen Recording

  4. Find QuickWhisper in the list and toggle it ON

  5. If QuickWhisper isn't listed, click the + button and add QuickWhisper from your Applications folder

  6. Important: You must restart QuickWhisper after enabling this permission

3. Accessibility Permission

  1. Open System Settings

  2. Click on Privacy & Security

  3. In the left sidebar, click Accessibility

  4. Find QuickWhisper in the list and toggle it ON

  5. If QuickWhisper isn't listed, click the + button and add QuickWhisper from your Applications folder

  6. Important: You must restart QuickWhisper after enabling this permission

Troubleshooting

QuickWhisper Not Listed in System Settings

If QuickWhisper doesn't appear in the permission lists:

  1. Make sure QuickWhisper is installed in your Applications folder

  2. Launch QuickWhisper at least once to register it with the system

  3. Try the permission request from within QuickWhisper first

  4. Manually add QuickWhisper using the + button in each permission section

Permission Still Not Working After Enabling

  1. Restart QuickWhisper completely (quit and relaunch)

  2. For Accessibility and Screen Recording permissions, a restart is often required

  3. Check that the permission is actually enabled (toggle should be blue/green)

  4. Try disabling and re-enabling the permission

System Audio Not Capturing

If system audio capture isn't working even with Screen Recording permission enabled:

  1. Ensure you've restarted QuickWhisper after granting permission

  2. Check that the audio source is set correctly in QuickWhisper

  3. Some applications may have their own audio protection that prevents capture

  4. Try testing with a simple application like Safari or Music first
