Microphone permission setup

QuickWhisper requires microphone permission to record system audio from your Mac. This might seem counterintuitive since you're recording system audio rather than using your microphone, but macOS treats all audio recording capabilities under the same permission system for security reasons.

Grant microphone permission

When you first try to record system audio in QuickWhisper, macOS will automatically prompt you to grant microphone permission. If you accidentally denied this permission or need to enable it manually:

  1. Open System Settings β†’ Privacy & Security β†’ Microphone

  2. Find QuickWhisper in the list of applications

  3. Toggle the switch next to QuickWhisper

Troubleshooting

If QuickWhisper doesn't have microphone permission, you'll experience:

  • The recording panel showing no audio levels for system audio

  • Silent recordings when trying to capture system audio

  • Error messages when attempting to start recording

If you've granted permission but are still having these issues:

  1. Open System Settings β†’ Privacy & Security β†’ Microphone

  2. Select QuickWhisper in the list

  3. Click the "-" button to remove it completely

  4. Restart QuickWhisper

  5. See that QuickWhisper reappeared in the list

  6. Make sure the toggle next to it is checked
